As most of you are aware, your eye exam here includes Optomap scan (optional upgrade £20 if
you are an NHS patient). Without going into too much clinical jargon, it makes your eye health
exam significantly more thorough than a ‘normal’ test and can detect certain eye and general health conditions earlier than we otherwise would.
As an early-year focus on eye health, we will donate ALL proceeds from the Optomap scan in February to Guide Dogs For the Blind. They are a great charity that helps train guide dogs, in order for severely sight impaired individuals to regain independence.
It costs in the region of £35,000 to fully train a guide dog, and not all dogs complete the course.
Naturally in my line of work, through dealing with people who are sight impaired, I am reminded regularly of how valuable our sight is – something most of us take for granted.
It will therefore be a pleasure to help the charity, even if only in a small way.
Thank you in advance, directly, or indirectly, for helping us with this donation. I will update you with the final donation amount next time.
